Oct 15, 2010 - A microsoft mouse worked for 2 days on the same mac. USB Prober will tell you a lot about the devices connected to your computer.
Click to expand. If I plug the mouse directly into one of the MacBook Pro's USB ports it works fine. If I plug the mouse into one of the ports on the USB hub, it disables the mouse along with whatever else is plugged into that section of the hub.
The hub is broken down into 3 sections so thankfully it only messes up 3 ports at a time, out of 9 total, when I try to plug it into it. I tried an SMC and PRAM reset and the problem persists. It started on PB2 and continues with PB3. Hopefully the next update will fix it. No big deal either way really since I do have the 2nd USB port on my MacBook Pro free to plug the mouse into until the issue is resolved.
I have been having issues with my external USB drives (connected via a powered USB 3.0 hub) randomly ejecting, sometimes upon wake but also while I am actively using the MBP. This has been occurring with every public 10.11 beta but never happened in Yosemite. I have to shutdown the MBP, cycle the power off and on to the hub, and then cold boot the MBP to remount the drives. I recently went days without noticing my Time Machine drive had dismounted until I saw the last backup was several days prior.
Also, I noticed that El Capitan cuts power to the ports on the USB hub during sleep, whereas I do not believe Yosemite did. (Ex: I charge Apple Watch with the charger connected to the USB hub and then put the MBP to sleep.
In 10.11 the Watch stops charging; I believe it continued to draw power and charge under 10.10.). We were warned about potential usb problems in the seed notes. This is one of the very rough edges developers and public beta testers agree to put up with when installing a beta (as well as a multitude of other bugs and the possibility of having to wipe the whole computer and start again). But I had some older DPs on a macbook air where nothing would show up on one usb port, but everything was OK on the other one.
Since I could get stuff working on one port I didn't worry too much about it. Now on DP6 everything works OK on both ports again.
So it seems they have fixed at least some of the issues with DP6.
